Terms and conditions

Agreement
These terms govern your use of Steno Start, published by Billy Rebecchi. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own learning. You may not copy, resell, redistribute or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows.
The open dictionary is separate
Steno Start Pro includes a 500-word teaching dictionary published under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. That data is a separate work from the app. You may copy, adapt and redistribute it under the terms of that licence, provided you keep the attribution and share adaptations under the same licence. The app's code, interface and branding are not covered by that licence.
Some practice sentences are derived from Tatoeba and are used under CC BY 2.0 FR. Attribution for the sentence pack is included with the app.
Purchases and refunds
Some features are unlocked by a one-off in-app purchase. The price is shown in the app before you buy, and the purchase is processed by Apple or Google. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under its rules and your statutory rights. Pro is a one-time unlock, not a subscription, but the store's terms still apply to the transaction.
Content and accuracy
Steno Start is an independent learning aid. It is not an official publication and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Plover, Open Steno, any steno hardware maker, any court reporting body or any awarding organisation.
The dictionary is a beginner teaching set, not a complete professional steno dictionary. Outlines may differ from the dictionary used by your steno software or your workplace. We work to keep the content accurate but cannot guarantee that it is complete or error-free, or that using it will lead to a particular speed, qualification or job.
Imported dictionaries
If you import a dictionary, you are responsible for having the right to use it and for checking its outlines. Imported data stays on your device. We do not receive it, review it or endorse it.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app unlawfully, attempt to disrupt it, or use it to infringe anyone else's rights.
Intellectual property
Steno Start, its interface, its artwork and its branding belong to Billy Rebecchi or are used with permission. The open dictionary is licensed separately as described above. Third-party names and marks remain the property of their owners.
Availability and changes
We may update, change or withdraw features. We do not promise that the app will always be available on every store or device. A purchase unlocks the features that existed when you bought it, subject to any store rules and continuing technical compatibility.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from reliance on the content for an exam, a qualification or a professional decision.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
